Best Five iOS Apps for Capturing and Editing Video

Making a great video used to mean pulling out an expensive video camera and owning your own video editing suite. Now you can do many of the same things once exclusively reserved for a high-end equipment right on your iPhone without a ton of cash or a lot of training.

The iPhone is capable of recording high-definition video suitable for the giant plasma screen in your living room, and there are a number of video editing apps out there to help you polish your video and add opening credits, sound effects and even a soundtrack into the mix — without ever leaving your device.

iMovie is a video app created by Apple, and it’s possibly one of the most well-known video editing apps for iOS. Much like iMovie on a Mac, iMovie for iOS lets you edit your videos and include photos, music and sound effects into the mix — and it all happens on your phone. The app has eight built-in themes with their own titles, transitions and soundtracks, as well as nine built-in trailers for creating the perfect preview for your film. Finished masterpieces can also be immediately uploaded and shared on video sharing sites such as YouTube and Vimeo.


2.Splice

Splice allows you to create and edit videos on your iPhone or iPod touch — adding music, photos, visual effects, audio mixing and more into your finished product. A free version of the app comes with some basic functionality, and advanced tools (slow motion, video trimming, sound effects and borders) are available as in-app purchases.

3.Pixorial

Pixorial is an iOS video app that lets you capture and upload high-definition videos to a number of different social networks — Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn and Blogger — and sync those videos with a Google Drive account so you can access them on other devices. An optional premium account offers up to 25GB of storage for your videos, includes video editing features and removes ads from the app.

If you’re shooting videos specifically to share with others, then Socialcam may be a great solution. Videos you shoot on the service are stored in the cloud, so you can watch them on any smartphone, computer or tablet. The app comes pre-loaded with a number of vintage filters and lets you share your videos publicly or keep them private. You can browse, “like” and comment on your friends’ videos in the app, and you can receive notifications when your friends shoot videos. Videos can be shared via Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. You can also email a video to a friend or send your videos via SMS.

If you miss the old-timey feel of Super8 cameras, then iSupr8 is an app for you. The app is a video recorder that grades each pixel of a recording based on exposure and adds old-school effects to it — giving the overall video a retro vibe. The frame rate of videos can be adjusted from 12 to 24 frames per second, and you can choose between a number of built-in virtual film stocks to give your film the perfect retro look. Finished films can be shared on Facebook and Twitter, sent to others via email or even viewed at home on the big screen.
